Galiwin'ku

Galiwin’ku is the main community on Elcho Island, located off the coast of north‑east Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory. It is one of the largest remote Aboriginal communities in the region, with a population of around 2,200 people, the majority of whom identify as Aboriginal. Galiwin’ku is a Yolŋu community with strong cultural traditions, languages and connections to country.

Galiwin’ku joined the SCfC program in 2013. SCfC in Galiwin’ku is guided by local leadership through the Yalu Aboriginal Corporation Board, which also undertakes the role of the SCfC Local Community Board. Yalu Aboriginal Corporation is the Facilitating Partner and works with the board and community to develop, deliver and review the SCfC Community Plan in line with local priorities and aspirations.
